Today I have a quick, but important post to finish the “Be Your Own” mini-series of posts…
Part I of this series was all about being your own hunter. Today I want to talk about being your own creator.
In this new age of hunting more hunters are trying to tell the story of their hunts through written word, video, and photos – they are hunting and creating. Advances in technology have made it easy for anyone to pick up a video camera, a DSLR, or build their own website. We have more and more people who are filming their hunts and capturing their adventures in other media as well. As a whole, I think this trend of capturing the story of hunting is good, but a problem I have noticed is that very few people are doing their own thing when it comes to capturing and retelling the story of their hunts.
The last thing I want to do is to discourage anyone from pursuing their vision, but I do want to say this – if your vision is to be the next __________, then don’t do it.
Pursue your vision, but make sure that vision is truly yours! There are enough (ok, too many) silly celebrity hunters out there. There are enough posing “pro staffers”. There are a lot of bad shows out there, and a few good ones. There are a LOT of great hunting blogs out there. Does that mean you shouldn’t try to make your own show or web site? Heck no!
There is always room for originality and quality.
Be your own creator. Tell the story of your hunts as you see it. Find a new way to write…a new way to see…a new way to share. That is how success is discovered.
