Scent control is a hot topic in the hunting world. We all know it is important to control our scent, but the big question is “How should you do it?” There are ton of scent control products on the market; everything from sprays, to washes, to gum. Yes, gum. In the past I haven’t used many products because I felt like I was wasting my money. Since I wasn’t using a product, I would try to minimize my scent the natural way – try to keep perspiration down, play the wind, use the terrain, etc.
I met Josh Clemence online recently, and it was then that I was introduced to his company, SEEMZ Technology. There is something refreshing about SEEMZ. Their marketing didn’t seem like a gimmick, they didn’t have bogus products (like gum!) in their product line, they guaranteed customer satisfaction, and they took the time to package their products right. I don’t want to just try SEEMZ this fall, I want to know the how, what and why behind the company. I don’t know about you, but I hate being marketed a product and not getting this full story. This interview with Josh is my attempt to get the full story behind SEEMZ.

– Tell us a little bit about the history of SEEMZ, how you got into the scent elimination industry, and the idea behind T.H.E.E. KRUSH system.
When I graduated from college I started working for a company who developed new cleaning technologies. I was lucky enough to be working on some really new and innovative products. It was that experience that led me to this new and innovative formula that would become the T.H.E.E. KRUSH. As a hunter I knew all the products on the market claimed to be “Human Scent” eliminators, what I had come up was an “Odor” eliminator. It worked on any odor you could throw at it. I had used a lot of the other products and knew I had something far superior. The product actually came a few years before the company. Creating a company in the Hunting industry was something I had wanted to do for a long time; I had the product already developed, but I needed some partners to help with investment and the work. I was introduced to two individuals who also wanted to start a company in the hunting industry and it started right then and there. We made our first prototype in the summer of 2008 and by fall we had a website and product being used in the field.
– When you decided to start SEEMZ in 2008 there were already quite a few scent elimination products on the market. What made you decide to enter an already crowded marketplace?
At that time it was primarily the established big brands in the market, several new products came to market that year and the following year. We really didn’t give the competition a lot of thought to be honest. We had used most of the other products on the market and in our testing none of them came close to the broad spectrum odor elimination of our product. We knew it would not be easy, but we felt very strongly we he had a product that would be differentiated by its performance and quality. As hunters we also knew that most companies used low quality packaging and sprayers. The sprayers always seemed to break and they were not very functional. We introduced INVERT- able sprayer technology to the hunting industry. It sprays upside down and sideways for complete coverage on those difficult areas. For the first 2 years we grew the company almost exclusively with Social Networking and the Web, developing relationships. It has been a very grassroots movement from the beginning. We now have the budget to do more traditional advertising and marketing but we will still see Social Networking and the Web as a huge part of who we are as a company. As a company and as hunters we have certain values which we think are important. Our product is the New Generation of Odor Elimination, and our customers are the New Generation of Hunting. We are not interested in bogus claims or the glamour side of this industry. We are here to give hunters high quality products that work, which can make them better hunters. We are here to educate people on how to be betters hunters and more informed hunting consumers. We will always speak our truth and give people the facts as we see them. We believe people will respect that and hopefully we can earn their trust.
– Now that SEEMZ has established its current product lineup, do you see the company diversifying into any other product lines?
We will be adding more products in the near future. Some of those will be additions to compliment our current line of Hunting Scent Elimination products and others will be in other Hunting related categories as well as the Fishing and Camping areas. Our mission here at SEEMZ is to only bring products to market that are new and innovative, they must either perform better than any other similar product on the market or be a completely new idea. We will not just bring a product to market just because we need to fill out our product line. – Many would say that the true and total elimination of human scent cannot be achieved, that the deer’s nose is just too good. How do you feel about that, and how do the SEEMZ products fit into that idea?
I completely agree with this statement. The strength of a deer’s nose is part of the factor, but there are also too many variables for the hunter to control many of which change in the field, such as perspiration. As hunters we must do our best to control those variables, use the best products available, and have a good Scent Control Strategy. I am confident in saying at SEEMZ we have the best scent elimination system available, and we back it up. No product can guarantee 100% success or completely eliminate the need to hunt the wind. I can tell you, that more times than I can count, our customers tell us they just can’t believe how many more deer they see using our product, how many more deer come in from downwind, and how they feel our product has made them a better hunter. As long as we are getting that kind of feedback, we know we are doing something right!
